Application Process

Places at our school are allocated on the basis of a selection process passed through the application committee of our school. By the given learning requirements of the children, our applications committee makes a decision according to the following criteria:

 

  • A balanced ratio of students who have German and English at first language level respectively.
  • A balanced ratio of boys and girls.
  • Language, cultural and social diversity in the school.

 

We assume that you as parents have a great interest in the good education and care of your children and we expect your willingness to personally adopt this and work actively with us.

 

In Secondary School, we accept students, who have been recommended to attend a 'Gymnasium' after completing primary school (Gymnasialempfehlung). At parents' request and after a detailed admissions interview, students with an outstanding "Integrierte Sekundarschule" recommendation may also be accepted into the bilingual secondary school. The parents' vote is valid in Berlin.

 

We accept students who demonstrate a fluency at first language level in either German or English as well as a satisfactory language competence in their other language and therefore assume they are able to successfully participate in bilingual lessons in German and English.

 

We establish, with the help of a short entrance exam in groups of 10 to 15 students, an impression of the individual learning requirements of every student. The results of the entrance exam will be documented and will form the foundation of an individual development plan and the education and development work with the students in our school. Further elements of the application process and the mutual decision making are as follows: two days of open house in September/October and January with an information session, submission of documents by the parents as well as an admission interview with school management, parents and child.

 

You will obtain a legal contract with PLATANUS SCHULE BERLIN after completing the following 7 steps. 

 

  • 1. You register your child by filling out out online application form for a place at our secondary school.
  • 2. We will confirm your registration and send you a written application form and a list of all required documents per email.
  • 3. You send us the written application form and all required documents according to the list.
  • 4. We invite your child to the entrance exam.
  • 5. We probably invite you for a personal interview with the head of school.
  • 6. We inform you about the results of school place allocation.
  • 7. You sign our school contract.

 

The application period for the school year 2012/2013 begins on 1 September 2011. The entrance exams take place starting from February 2012. The allocation of school places will be decided latest in April 2012.

 

In the 2011/12 School Year your child can enter into Years 7 and 8. 

In the 2012/13 School Year your child can enter into Years 7, 8 and 9.
