Activities

Our afternoon programme takes place on regular school days between 4 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. The afternoon programme includes a range of extra-curricular and co-curricular options.

Obligatory for all students on Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. we run our 'Schülerzeit' or 'Student council'. During this time we deal with topics important for the entire class, yeargroup or school.

According to different age groups and interests, students can choose from a wide variety of clubs, activities and courses in the fields of Sports, Art, Music, Theater, Craftwork, Media/Computer, Maths, Sciences and Technics. They are encouraged to participate for at least one semester.

In the 2010/11 School Year we offer the following clubs and courses:

  • Klettern (Hr. Grossmann)
  • Fitness (Hr. Dr. Dennhardt)
  • Baskettball (Hr. McEachin, Hr. Mouroum, Hr. Dr. Dennhardt)
  • Vocalized & School Band (Ms. Kulczak)
  • Percussion It! (Ms. Kulczak)
  • Nawi AG (Fr. Apitz)
  • Mathe AG (Hr. Dr. Model)
  • Cooking Club (Mr. Donahue)
  • Art Club (Mr. Hulme)
  • Debating Club (Mr. Anderson)
  • Yearbook (Hr. Dr. Stahl)

After regular school hours, aside from the courses and clubs, we also offer pedagogical assistance and an ideal environment for learning and consolidating the work done in class, as well as for doing homework.

Our afternoon programme includes mentoring and subject-based learning groups which are aimed both at developing students’ strengths and assisting them with possible weaknesses. It is conducted in close cooperation with class teachers, tutors, students and parents.

According to the individual talents of students, we organise and encourage their participation in competitions such as maths Olympics, debating clubs, the national youth science competition ‘Jugend forscht’, sporting events, art, music or theatre contests, as well as participation in the secondary-school societies of the Humboldt University. We will also collaborate with partner schools in promoting Berlin-wide working groups for gifted students.

Lunch and afternoon snacks will be prepared according to nutritional physiology principles. Lunch is being delivered from the catering company "3 Köche" and the afternoon snack is being prepared by our housekeeping staff. Sugar-free drinks will be available throughout the day.

We also encourage and provide advice on one-year exchange programmes abroad. The most suitable time for this is the school year after completing intermediate education (middle school). Level 2 of secondary school and preparation for the Abitur follow immediately after the exchange.

During several weeks of the holidays we offer secondary school students a diverse programme of educational and leisure activities between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
